It was wonderful to have so many of our Year 12 students and the Parishioners who are praying for them gather on Wednesday 30 August for our annual breakfast and liturgy. There was a wonderful feeling in the room and it was beautiful to see students and Parishioners find each other, introduce themselves and spend time together.
My thanks to John Walsh and his Hospitality Team who worked from very early in the morning to ensure that we had a delicious breakfast. Catherine McAuley and her Mercy Sisters promote hospitality and service as part of their charism; we should be proud that this aspect of Mercy is being carried on so well by John and his team of staff and students.
I know our students are most appreciative of the prayerful support they receive – I took time during the day to reflect on Sr Imelda, who died earlier this year, as the initiative of parishioners praying for the students was her idea. She would have been most happy to see the fruits of her idea.
Parishioner’s Blessing of the Year 12 students
May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.
May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe
that you can make a difference in this world; so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.
May you find a home where your faith can be nourished and where you can grow into all God wants you to be. AMEN.
